InsyaAllah…

It was Friday evening, and as usual, I made my way through horrible Friday evening traffic to pick up Belacan Girl from work. Yes, we car pool together. Although it usually makes us late for work or reach home really late, we tend to spend quality time in traffic jam. It’s when we catch up on each other’s day and talk more stuff. (What else to do in traffic but talk?)

However, Belacan Girl got held back at work and I had to wait longer than usual. So I parked the car and went for maghrib prayers at the nearby surau. The imam was reciting surah al-kahfi during prayers, and after prayers I decided to kill some time reading up on surah al-kahfi.

I came across these two verses 23-24:

A023

Malay Translation: “Dan janganlah engkau berkata mengenai sesuatu (yang hendak dikerjakan): “Bahawa aku akan lakukan yang demikian itu, kemudian nanti”

English Translation (Muhammad Asad) : “AND NEVER say about anything, “Behold, I shall do this tomorrow,”

A024

English Translation (Muhammad Asad): “without (adding], “if God so wills.” And if thou shouldst forget [thyself at the time, and become aware of it later], call thy Sustainer to mind and say: “I pray that my Sustainer guide me, even closer than this, to a consciousness of what is right!”

I was taken aback because I tend to say ‘I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna do that’ and sometimes the things that I wanted to do never materialized. But I’ve never realized that God himself commanded us to say ‘insyaAllah’ / ‘if God so wills’ if we say we wanted to do something in the future. Just in case we mere mortals forget our intentions or unable to carry out what we wanted to do, God asked us to pray ”Mudah-mudahan Tuhanku memimpinku ke jalan petunjuk yang lebih dekat dan lebih terang dari ini” / “I pray that my Sustainer guide me, even closer than this, to a consciousness of what is right!”

What a brilliant couple of verses. If we intend to do anything, just say ‘insyaAllah’ and God will bless what we want to do. Simple, eh? (Who says God is difficult?)

So I hope you guys have a good weekend, and hope to talk to you guys again soon… insyaAllah! 🙂

P.S: I leave you with Maher Zain’s famous song ‘InsyaAllah’. 🙂
